A Great Destination for Hiking, Camping, Fishing and More!

In the far southeast of corner of West Virginia lies Moncove Lake State Park. Situated on over 800 acres in the mountains near the Virginia border Moncove Lake State Park provides a great setting for a relaxing family vacation as it is located near endless attractions and activities.

Moncove Lake State Park is named after the 140 acre lake that provides fishing, boating, and other recreational pursuits. Moncove Lake provides fishing for bass, bluegill, and other game fish as well as being stocked seasonally with trout. The lake has a 5 horsepower motor restriction, and small boats are available to rent from the park. The lake provides numerous access points for the bank fisherman including family friendly fishing spots. For those looking to wade and fish, the Greenbrier River is located nearby and is a well known smallmouth bass river. Trout fishing is also plentiful in this region. Public Hunting areas are also located in the region (particularly, Greenbrier State Forest located just a short drive away).

Moncove Lake State Park provides campers with a choice of about 50 campsites, with half having electrical hookups. The non electric sites (to the left) are better for tent campers as the offer more privacy than the electric sites. Some of the electric sites do have quite nice views however. There are bathhouses spread throughout the campground providing showers and toilets. Numerous points in the campground provide water spigots for campers as well. A dump station is also provided for RV’s. The park’s swimming pool is also accessible by foot from the campground. The swimming pool is located near the lake and provides a great view of the scenery for visitors.

Moncove Lake State Park provides game courts, playgrounds, a swimming pool, and picnic areas typical of many State Parks in West Virginia. The nearby Greenbrier River Trail provides a nice place to hike, fish, and bike along a converted former railroad bed.

Directions to Moncove Lake State Park are as follows: take Rt 219 South of Interstate 64 and watch for the signs. The park is located near the town of Union, WV. You will leave Interstate 64 near Lewisburg, this is a good place to pick up last minute provisions. Lewisburg is also home to the West Virginia State Fair.
